It has first-class Molecular Laboratories, including next-generation sequencing equipment with dedicated bioinformatic support.
The GlobalSeaweed- PROTECT team at the NHM is led by Professor Juliet Brodie (Project Lead and Research Area Leader in Seaweed Conservation).

Since 2000, SAMS has forged a major role in seaweed disease and biosecurity policy and research through Marie Curie Training Fellowships and UK initiatives, such as the NERC International Overseas Fund and the UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund, which awarded £6.1M to the previous GlobalSeaweed-STAR programme.

The United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS)
The United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) is one of the research and training institutes of the United Nations University (UNU) network. UNU is the academic arm of the United Nations, headquartered in Tokyo. The network consists of 14 institutes and programmes worldwide, engaging in research and capacity development to support the universal goals of the UN. Through UNU, leading scholars worldwide are brought together to generate innovative and policy-relevant knowledge, contributing to a brighter future. The specific mission of UNU-CRIS is to foster a better understanding of regional integration and cooperation processes and their implications in a changing world order. UNU-CRIS specialises in the comparative study of regional integration, monitoring and assessing regional integration worldwide, and the study of interactions between regional organisations and global institutions cooperating closely with our core/hosting national partners Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University. UNU-CRIS acts as a think tank for the UN, with particular links to the UN bodies dealing with regional integration, and works in partnership with institutes and initiatives worldwide concerned with integration, sustainability, and cooperation issues.
